Terms of Service
AISbox (aisbox.net) is operated by P34 Systems (ABN 82 838 163 613), p34.dev. These terms apply when you deposit funds or use the AISbox API. Questions: [email protected].
1. The service
AISbox gives API access to AIS vessel position data: box watches, vessel watches, recent tracks and MMSI lookups, as described on the homepage. Current prices are shown there. We may change prices with at least 14 days' notice by email; a change never applies to a duration plan you have already bought.
2. Your account and API key
Your account is identified by your email address and accessed with an API key. The key is shown once, after your first payment, and we store only a hash of it. Keep it secret: you are responsible for all use made with it. If it is exposed, rotate it with rotate_key. If you lose it, email us from your account's email address.
3. Prepaid balance
You pay in advance, in US dollars, through Stripe. Your balance is a prepayment for the service, not a deposit account: it earns no interest and cannot be transferred to another account. Charges are deducted as described on the homepage. Unused balance can be refunded at any time; see the Refund Policy.
4. The data
AIS is broadcast by vessels themselves and collected from third-party sources. It can be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate or missing: vessels switch transponders off, coverage has gaps, and positions can be wrong or spoofed. Data is provided as is.
Not for navigation or safety. Do not use AISbox for navigation, collision avoidance, search and rescue, or any safety-of-life purpose.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the data in your own products, research and analysis. You must not:
- share, sell or publish your API key;
- resell or redistribute the data in bulk as a data feed of your own;
- try to get around rate limits, billing or other limits, or interfere with the service;
- use the service unlawfully, including to evade sanctions or to stalk or harass anyone.
6. Availability
We work to keep AISbox running but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted. Capacity is limited, so a watch may fail to start; you are not charged when it does. If a data source becomes unavailable, we may stop affected watches; updates that are not delivered are not charged. If we close the service, we will refund all remaining balances.
7. Suspension and closure
You can stop using AISbox at any time and refund your balance. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. When we close one, we refund its remaining balance, except where the account was used for fraud.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows:
- our liability for a failure of the service is limited to supplying it again or refunding what you paid for it;
- our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, revenue or data.
9. Disputes and chargebacks
If something is wrong with a charge, email us first. We will look into it promptly. A card chargeback suspends the account while it is resolved.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page with its effective date, and we will email you at least 14 days before a material change takes effect. Using the service after that means you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
